Sustainable Operations.
OMNOVA's business activities reflect a continuous improvement mindset that values employee safety and security, pollution prevention, energy efficiency, reduced water use and waste, strict environmental compliance and safe material handling, usage and transportation practices. As part of our Vision 2014 sustainability initiative, we track data and trends in our operations, with specific continuous improvement goals to reduce:
- Total energy consumed
- Greenhouse gases generated
- Solid waste to landfill
- Hazardous waste
- Water usage
- Safety OSHA-reportable cases
Concurrently, OMNOVA has pledged to reduce its total energy consumption by 25% or more over 10 years as a participant in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Save Energy Now LEADER program. This voluntary agreement calls for increased energy efficiency and a reduction in carbon emissions from the Company’s U.S.-based manufacturing locations. Under requirements of the program, OMNOVA must establish energy baselines, develop an energy-management plan and designate an energy leader/manager. The Company must also report its progress to the DOE on an annual basis.
Our efforts to reduce environmental impacts are supported by our disciplined LEAN SixSigma operating approach which focuses on eliminating waste and streamlining operations. LEAN
SixSigma and other employee involvement projects have delivered energy efficiencies, hazardous waste reduction, scrap reduction and recycling.
In addition, OMNOVA Solutions is a member of the American Chemistry Council, and our Performance Chemicals business is committed to the chemical industry's Responsible Care® initiative, which includes a strong product stewardship program.
