Pre-applied Adhesive Service Program.
OMNOVA offers the optional service of a pre-applied adhesive backing for all of its 3D Laminates and surf(x)® 3D Laminates. Our Pre-Applied Service Program takes the mess, aggravation, waste, and worry out of your adhesive operation by completely eliminating the need for it. The Program can save you time, free up valuable floor space, reduce operational complexity, and increase the quality of your finished goods.
Program Benefits
Easier, Faster, More Uniform Production
Our heat-activated, pre-applied adhesive backing is more uniform and more consistent than spray applications. When the application permits, a thinner gauge laminate may be used, which translates to less cost. The increased uniformity of our adhesive layer can mean better adhesion with less thinning around dimensional areas. Variable hot and cold spots caused by the irregularity of spray patterns are virtually eliminated.
Less Waste
Eliminates the space, labor, waste and overall costs of a spray booth. Frees up floor space for more profitable operations. Streamlines production.

Eliminates the preparation, mess and clean-up associated with a spray booth operation.
Long Shelf Life
Our pre-applied adhesive has an extended shelf life that can be measured in months – unlike the “pot” life of spray adhesives which is only effective for a few hours. With a pre-applied adhesive layer, our laminates can be used right off the shelf. No need to constantly mix adhesives or dispose of unused amounts.
Cleaner Components
There's less post-forming clean-up with pre-applied adhesive. Formed parts do not require post-surface buffing to remove adhesive over-spray. Fiber “pop” is virtually eliminated.
Fewer Health Risks
Eliminates many of the environmental and health risks associated with a sprayed-adhesive operation.
Better Surface Appearance
Laminates with our pre-applied adhesive can mask or bridge minor defects in the substrate, board inconsistencies and rough sanding.
Program Specifications
Adhesive Settings
Our pre-applied adhesive activates or bounds when the press glue line achieves 160° to 170° F. The press pre-heat cycle time should be increased approximately 25% to 30% from sprayed cycle times. Temperature tapes should be used to check temperature on the edge of the part to ensure they are achieving the required 160° to 170° F on the glue line.
Adhesive Width
The adhesive layer is applied in a standard 48” or 52” width depending on the production width of the laminate. Variable adhesive layer widths up to 54.5” are available on a custom basis.
Minimums
The Pre-Applied Adhesive Service Program is available on all orders of 3D Laminates and surf(x) 3D Laminates of 250 or more linear yards.
