In-Mold Coatings

OMNOVA develops primer and appearance coatings that can be applied during the molding process of plastics, sheet molding compound (SMC) and composite components for automotive, heavy truck and marine applications. Our line of in-mold coatings function as substrate porosity fillers and sealers to provide a uniform surface. In-mold coatings offer an economical method for reducing the costs and time associated with applying primers and coatings, eliminating additional steps in the manufacturing process. They also can improve the environmental impact associated with multiple priming, painting and finishing steps. Today, OMNOVA has expanded this technology to molded residential doors, and textured, non-skid surfaces for beverage trays and other applications.

Our in-mold coatings for non-skid surfaces can be applied during the molding process, functioning as substrate porosity fillers and sealers to provide a uniform surface with enhanced gripping performance for a variety of end uses.


For Topcoats

Our in-mold coatings for topcoats can be applied during the molding process, functioning as substrate porosity fillers and sealers to provide a uniform surface. They also can be pigmented, and customized to deliver matte, high-gloss or non-skid surfaces.


For Thermoplastic Primers
