Shining a Spotlight on Susan Beiser, OMNOVA Senior Designer

"I'm most fulfilled creating functional products – function is the energizing crossroad of my passion for research, style and color and the experience of consumers using my designs in everyday life."

As Senior Designer, Susan is currently responsible for all new designs developed for the Recreational Vehicle (RV), Acrylic Bath Surround and Decking markets. After a nearly 20-year tenure with OMNOVA, Susan has experience with and designed for nearly all our markets.

But, let’s rewind a little bit. Susan’s passion for all things design began with a 1970’s design trifecta - Shrinky Dinks®, the Spirograph® and Altair Design books procured during her elementary school Scholastic Book Fair ignited an appetite for design. Before she knew it, she was off and running headfirst into the arts with summer art camps and half days spent at a high school specifically for the arts. It was Susan’s more formal doodles that helped her earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration and Graphics followed by a Master’s in Textile Design.

Susan’s journey naturally evolved into a design career that allows her to build a diverse range of designs for various industries. Additionally, in the past, she brought her design passion into academia as a Textile Instructor for the Art Institute of Charlotte. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Color Marketing Group, the premier international association for color design professionals.

Her current laminate designs have increased strategic market share in both the RV and Bath Surround markets, and she has implemented process improvements that increased gross margin, improved efficiencies and streamlined design conception to product manufacturing.

The trend and style forecasts she builds for surface design and interior furnishing markets are value-added means for internal stylists and customers to make smart decisions about product assortment based on consumer purchasing directions. Her ability to identify, analyze and apply trend direction to the design development process has led to corporate consulting and guest speaking engagements at universities throughout the southeastern United States.

As a designer, Susan is most fulfilled creating functional products – function is the energizing crossroad of her passion for research, style and color and the experience of consumers using her designs in everyday life.
